Riga is a very beautiful city full of greenery in the spring and summer time. The winter is almost over but there is not that many greenery around in the streets yet. Botanical garden with a winter conservatory full of beautiful plants is a cosy place to visit with the family or friends even in the late winter.
If you live in the centre, there is one more hidden conservatory on Rūpniecības 21, in the building of Zemgale Administrative House. Many people often choose this place for the official marriage ceremonies because of its nice ambiance. But it is not forbidden to visit the winter garden even if you are not going to get married too.
The fans of colourful flowers and city strolls can also enjoy walking along the flower market on Tērbatas 2a in Riga. This Sakta Flower market is open 24/7 and is a very nice sightseeing spot. The small houses selling various flowers look especially exciting in the evening, when the lights are on.
In case you are a very curious about plants in general and would like to get a more profound knowledge about plants that are growing in Latvia, you could visit the Latvian Museum of Natural History. There is an exposition open to visitors with various plant herbariums in the museum premises.
On July, 23rd, from 11:00 to 19:00, and on July, 24th, from 10:00 to 16:00, at cultural centre “Siguldas devons” there will be a phlox flower exhibition.
Café lovers could appreciate the Flower café located on Antonijas 17a in Riga. They offer coffee and flower workshops for those who like to create something themselves. NB! The language of the workshops might be Latvian only so one has either to speak Latvian a bit or ask in advance for a possibility to arrange an English language class.
